Transition into a New Normal

Updated: May 11, 2023

Dated: July 10, 2022

On Friday the 17th of June, the Government of Nauru declared a national lockdown after numerous cases of COVID had entered the community. This resulted in Capelle & Partner having to close down most of its outlets, reducing staff numbers and enforcing customer limits inside its store. The Bay Restaurant and Tropicana Cafe only offered takeaway and delivery services to customers.

With COVID practices in place such as mask wearing, social distancing and hand sanitizing upon entry, Capelle & Partner was able to operate with limited staff and customers inside the store. This also led to the company launching its own online delivery service on Friday, the 24th of June.

With over 70% of the company’s employees self-isolating due to testing positive to COVID or being a close contact, C&P had to close all of its stores on Monday, the 26th of June. This led to the business operating only from its online delivery service.

After 2 weeks of closure, C&P reopened its supermarket to the public while applying necessary COVID practices such as customer limits inside the store, mask wearing, social distancing and hand sanitising on entry. Moving on from a tough period for the company, we are able to transition into a ‘new normal’.

We would like to thank Nauru’s COVID Task Force and our customers for their ongoing support and patience during this time.
